Enter Old Chatham’s new guest cottage and you will experience the comfortable, relaxed elegance that the OC clubhouse is known for, with some added special touches. Antique furniture and locally sourced stone and wood products are a few of the distinctions in the interior design of the guest cottage. The result is a retreat-like atmosphere that will be of great comfort for business and personal use by OC members and their guests.
Let’s take a look inside and see what great features the guest cottage has to offer.
Focus on the Natural
The goal for the interior is on making it blend well with the grace and natural beauty of it’s surroundings. To achieve that look there is an emphasis on local quality stone and wood products to provide the cottage with what interior designer and OC member Rhonda Hobgood defines as “rustic elegance.”
For the custom cabinets and trim, Stephenson Millwork of Wilson, N.C., supplied the materials and created abundant woodwork that accents the rooms. Likewise, craftsmen have fabricated marble and granite extracted in the region to construct such accessories as the 10-foot-long bar in the kitchen. The hardwood white oak floors reflect the trees surrounding the property.
Additionally, vaulted ceilings and large windows offer a very airy, natural feeling throughout the 2,700-square-foot facility. When you walk into the foyer and enter the great room, you have a panoramic, 180-degree view from the clubhouse to the grounds. Floor-to-ceiling bookcases and a fireplace complement the feeling that the cottage is an extension of the nearby woods with accessories that are essential and not artificially decorated.
Rooms of Distinction
For those staying at the cottage, each of the four bedroom suites are beautifully appointed in the style of a luxury hotel, with king-size beds and antique furniture in every room along with adjacent full baths. Cottage guests will take great comfort in the quality of the fabric and finishes of the furnishings as well as of the wool carpeting. The colors of the linens, cashmere and other fabrics used are designed to complement each other for top visual appeal.
The kitchen offers an open area designed for serviceability, with a dining table that can seat eight people. As with the rest of the facility, it is handicapped accessible
The guest cottage will make you feel comfortable any time of the year, as it can keep you cozy in the winter and cool inside during the summer. For the spring and fall, a planned outdoor fire pit can keep you warm at night while roasting hot dogs and marshmallows or just enjoying the warmth of the flames. It is conveniently located near the putting green and clubhouse area for rest and recreation in those areas, making it the perfect retreat for any dedicated golfer.
