Director Of Operations At The Triangle’s Top-Ranked Golf Course Serving Two-Year Term As Board President Of Carolinas PGA Section
RALEIGH, N.C., June 22, 2016 – Old Chatham Golf Club, a nationally recognized, premier private golf club located in the heart of North Carolina’s greater Triangle region, has announced that John Marino, Director of Operations, has been inducted as President of the Carolinas PGA Section of the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA).
In this role, Marino leads a board that is dedicated to nurturing and improving the quality of the game of golf for the thousands of golfers who use its member facilities throughout North Carolina and South Carolina as well as a small portion of southern Virginia. Formally established in 1923, the Carolinas Section has grown to be the largest of the PGAs 41 sections with more than 2,000 professional members.
Marino brings many years of experience and leadership to the role, having served on the board in various capacities for the past 10 years. Moreover, since 2001, Marino has served as the director of operations at Old Chatham, overseeing the course, facilities and club personnel. He is also a past board member of The First Tee of the Triangle and was the recipient of the 2012 Carolinas Section Bill Strausbaugh award, which honors a Carolinas golf professional for mentoring.
Originally from Greenwich, Conn., Marino joined the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of America in 1994 after graduating from the University of Connecticut at Storrs, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business communications. In 1994, Marino became the assistant golf professional at Round Hill Club in Greenwich during the summer months and Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla., in the winter. He worked with members of both clubs for seven years before joining the staff at Old Chatham Golf Club in 2001.
“John is one of the top golf professionals anywhere in the country,” said Old Chatham board president Allen Wilson. “His leadership skills and knowledge of golf will serve the Carolinas PGA well. We are so excited at Old Chatham to have such outstanding professionals like John helping create a one-of-a-kind environment where our members enjoy the best experience in golf.”
“It is an honor to be elected to this position by your peers,” Marino said. “The Carolinas PGA has always meant a great deal to me since I moved to North Carolina and joined the staff at Old Chatham in 2001. I look forward to the next two years of working with the board to grow the game of golf throughout the Carolinas.”
